Today, many people are using the records from the old archives to recover their family history. But most of these records include only technical details of a person's life, such as their birth date, whom they married, the jobs they did, and so forth, but they contain very little about the person themselves such as their likes, dislikes, hobbies, hopes and dreams.

The Family research resources.

Most of the online resources to date are targeting US population, also now, the number of them relate to UK, Canada and other 'civilized' places. The large part of our family history belongs to East Europe where wars, revolutions, pogroms and general anarchy where rampant. As result, I am not holding my breath to find many references in the archives.

My family tree is the product of the oral history. What we remember, is what we got here. That is why collecting that information is so important. For one, we do not have that much else to rely on, and second, it is often more interesting and fun then the dry facts of archives (lame, I know, but I am trying to make a positive spin here).
